Water Polo Team
Founded in 1985, the Washington DSeahorses is the longest continuously operating water polo team in the U.S. openly welcome to individuals who identify as LGBTQ. The DSeahorses is a player-driven organization committed to being an active member of Team DC, a LGBTQ sports community. In the spirit of this tradition, we ask all players to commit a few hours per year to volunteering at practice, tournaments, and at club sporting events around the DC area.
The DSeahorses have proudly represented the Washington metro area in national and international competitions. Our journeys have included local competitions in the Washington area as well tournaments in Paris, Amsterdam, Sydney and Chicago. The DSeahorses are a member of USA Water Polo association as well as IGLA, the International Gay and Lesbian Aquatics organization, and hosted the water polo portion of the 2008 IGLA games in DC.
The DSeahorses is an entirely self-supporting team. We currently have no corporate sponsorship and rely on our fundraising activities to remain viable competitors. We welcome all support from the community at large.
The DSeahorses welcomes newcomers whether or not they have played water polo before.
In 2020, the Washington DSeahorses adopted our new name after 35 years as the Washington Wetskins. We are proud to continue the rich tradition and history of our team under our fresh new name. Come play with us!
All DSeahorses must be current members of USA Water Polo in order to play. Registration with USA Water Polo must be updated annually.
